Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday, July 11 at 6:08 p.m., deputies received information that a group of juveniles had just left the Madison Liquor Store with bottles of liquor and were currently at property located on State Road 53 North. Deputies contacted the property owner who gave permission for deputies to respond and investigate. Upon arrival deputies made contact with a group of juveniles and inquired about possessing alcohol. One of the juveniles admitted to having an “unknown” male adult purchase the alcohol for him and admitted to having the bottle of liquor in his truck as well as marijuana.
The deputy seized the liquor and marijuana and took the juvenile claiming ownership into custody. Deputies counseled the remaining juveniles in the presence of their parents of the criminal consequences for underage possession. Eight grams of marijuana were seized as evidence and the liquor was poured out and disposed of. The juvenile was charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
The identity of the adult who purchased the alcohol for the juvenile is still under investigation.
