Joanne Tookes Fowler was born on May 11, 1955 in Orange County Hospital, Orlando, to Harvie J. Tookes Sr. and the late Ezell Tookes. She departed this earthly plain and entered into an eternal rest on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Apollo Health and Rehabilitation Center, in St. Petersburg, Fl.
At a young age she relocated to Madison County and attended Madison County schools. As a teenager, she moved to St. Petersburg, Fl., where she married the late Sylvester Fowler. She was a member of Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and later found her church home with her husband at Stewart-Isom CME Church, where she was a member of the Stewardess Board, and attended faithfully until her health declined. She was a member of Ruth Chapter 43 Order of the Eastern Star.
Joanne enjoyed traveling, crafting, word search puzzles, and was a music and movie aficionado. However, what she enjoyed most was spending time with her family. One of her favorite pastimes was to playfully tease with family and friends. She always had a smile on her face.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her father, Harvie J. Tookes Sr. and Step-mother Ella Tookes, of St. Petersburg; mother-in-law, Mary Fowler, of St. Petersburg; two brothers, Harvie Tookes, Jr., of St. Petersburg, and James Tookes, of West Palm Beach; four sisters, Jenethel Tookes, of Austin Tx., Johnnie “Louise” Tookes (George), Lillie Bruton (Johnny) and Lashawn Tookes, all of St. Petersburg; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Fletcher, of St. Petersburg and Dorothy Smith, of Alabama; two uncles, David Delaughter, of Madison, and Andrew Herbert Tookes (Sharon), of Tampa, six aunts, Pearl Coffee, of Tampa, Lillie Tookes, of Chicago, Il., Naomi Anderson, Laverne Lamb, Dorthenia McCloud and Mary Francis Holloway; two beloved nieces, Lakelia Tookes and April Bruton, both of St. Petersburg, Fl.; a great-nephew, Declan Landry Bruton, of St. Petersburg, Fl., and a host of cousins, family and friends.
