By Jacob Bembry Greene Publishing, Inc. Construction at the interchange of US 90 and State Road 53 is nearing completion. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the cost for all work will be approximately $1.2 million. The original contract was for 140 days. This included 30 weather days, as well as holidays, plus two weeks for utility work to be done. The work left to be completed is for the barriers in the median to be raised. Work included rebuilding a retention wall at the northeastern corner of SR 53 and US 90; adding left turn signals to both lights (north and south) on SR 53; replacing all traffic signals and poles; and adding a pedestrian crosswalk signals. Work officially began on the intersection on Sept. 3, 2013 and with a completion date set for early 2014, the FDOT said that they are still on time for their target completion date.
