The rest area on Interstate 10 westbound located just east of County Road 255 (Exit 262) at mile marker 265 in Madison County is scheduled to close Monday, Oct. 12 for resurfacing. The rest area will be completely closed for at least one week, weather permitting. Once the westbound rest area reopens, the eastbound rest area is scheduled to close October 19 for approximately one week for resurfacing. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project includes removing the old pavement and replacing it with a new layer of asphalt and cleaning the facilities. Message boards on the interstate will warn motorists to bypass the facilities during the closures. The nearest rest area to the I-10 westbound facility is located at mile marker 233 in Jefferson County, 39 miles west.
The nearest rest area to the I-10 eastbound facility is located at mile marker 293 in Suwannee County, 32 miles east. FDOT hired Anderson Columbia Company, Inc. of Lake City to complete the $380,000 project this fall, weather permitting. The I-10 rest areas in Madison County were last resurfaced in 2000.
