High Speed Police Chase Ends With Three Arrests

Screen Shot 2014-10-30 at 3.57.14 PMMadison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 4:50 p.m., a deputy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office attempted a traffic stop on a silver Toyota Camry traveling Westbound on I-10 near mile marker 263. The deputy activated his emergency lights and the driver, later identified as Guy Haywood, 31, of Orlando, immediately accelerated in attempt to actively flee from the deputy.

The pursuit continued in a westerly direction at speeds exceeding 100 m.p.h., until Haywood exited I-10 onto South CR 255 and continued a southerly direction of travel quickly accelerating to speeds in excess of 100 m.p.h. Haywood displayed extreme reckless behavior traveling south in the northbound lanes forcing several vehicles off the roadway to avoid collision. Haywood continued south until turning west onto Luna Street to the intersection of Midway Church Road and from there back to SR 53 turning in a northerly direction. Haywood continued extreme reckless behavior approaching other motorist and responding deputies at head on angles.

The deputies made two attempts to deploy tire deflation devices, however Haywood managed to avoid the deployments and continue fleeing. Haywood entered back onto I-10 at SR 53 in an easterly direction and deputies deployed a third attempt of tire deflation devices and again Haywood managed to avoid them. Haywood crossed the median into the westbound lane continuing easterly accelerating to speeds in excess of 130 m.p.h. Haywood exited I-10 from the CR 255 entrance ramp and again traveled South on CR 255 for several miles.

As Haywood approached the intersection of CR 255 and Lloyd Street, deputies positioned their patrol units to stop Haywood, however Haywood attempted to continue to flee causing a collision with two patrol units that ended the pursuit.

Deputies recovered cocaine, marijuana, a firearm and stolen property from several counties in South Florida and other States. Additional investigations are pending.

Haywood was charged with numerous counts of aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, possession of a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. Passenger Jose Manuel Delgado-Salaman, 28, of Kissimmee, had three outstanding warrants from Orange County and was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of a concealed firearm. Passenger Elizabeth Lee Santo-Susso, 26, of Virginia Beach, Va., was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of a concealed firearm.
