A 7:45 p.m. wreck on Wednesday, Oct. 5 resulted in 14-year-old Travon Bell, of Greenville, being flown to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) with critical injuries, according to a press release issued by the Florida Highway Patrol.
Bell was driving a 1998 Chevy Cavalier in an eastern direction down County Road 140 and approached the intersection of U.S. 221, in Greenville.
Bell continued to attempt to travel east through the intersection, but failed to observe a second vehicle, driven by Abigail Ellis, 48, of Monticello, that was traveling south on U.S. 221., just north of the intersection.
Bell pulled his Chevy Cavalier into the intersection, directly into the path of Ellis' 2007 Chrysler Model 300. As a result, the front of Ellis' vehicle collided with the left side of the Bell's vehicle, which was pushed to a final resting place south of the intersection, in the northbound lane of U.S. 221, facing south. Ellis' Chrysler came to a final resting place on the east shoulder of U.S. 221, facing north.
Bell is facing charges of driving without a license, no motor vehicle registration, no proof of insurance and failure to stop or yield at an intersection.
Ellis suffered minor injuries as a result of the wreck but was not transported to a medical facility.
FHP has not released why 14-year-old Bell was driving a vehicle, nor why he was unaccompanied by an adult.
FHP Trooper Bogusky investigated the wreck and was assisted on scene by the Madison County Sheriff's Office, the Greenville Volunteer Fire Department, Hamburg-Lovett Volunteer Fire Department, and Madison Fire Rescue. The New Home and Sirmans Volunteer Fire Departments set up a landing zone near the interstate for the minor to be airlifted to TMH.
