According to a report by the MCSO Major David Harper, deputies were dispatched to S and J Deli, in Greenville, on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 5:39 p.m. in response to a report of a male who had been shot. Upon arrival, deputies located a male victim who was suffering from a single gunshot wound. Deputies rendered aid and secured the scene for Madison County EMS to begin treating the victim. The victim was then life flighted to a hospital in Leon County for treatment.
The deputies learned that the actual shooting took place at a residence, located on NW Haffye Dr., in Greenville. The victim then drove himself to the S and J Deli to seek help. The victim informed the deputies that his step-son, Deshaun Mutch, 29, was the suspect who shot him. The victim also gave the deputies a description of the vehicle in which Mutch fled the scene. A short time later, a vehicle that matched the description was located in Madison and was stopped by MCSO deputies, who were assisted by the Madison Police Department (MPD). Deshaun Mutch was identified as a passenger in the vehicle and was arrested without incident. Mutch was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The case still remains under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact Lieutenant Investigator Doug Haskell with the MCSO Criminal Investigations Division at (850) 973-4152.
