Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Wednesday, June 3, at 2:28 p.m., a Madison County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force investigator attempted to make contact with a male subject who was riding a bicycle on Main Street in Greenville. The male, identified as Austin Travon Douglas, 23, of Greenville jumped off the bike in a yard of a residence that was not his and ran inside the residence while ignoring the investigators lawful orders to stop. Eventually, Douglas walked around the residence from the back yard. The investigator detained Douglas and then went to check the back yard area where Douglas had just appeared from. The investigator located a clear plastic bag containing numerous empty small plastic baggies, that are commonly used to package illegal narcotics to sell, lying on the ground between a propane tank and the residence, along with a clear plastic zip lock bag that contained a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine near the back door to the residence.
The owners of the residence stated that the contraband did not belong to them. The investigator was able to determine that no one else was in the back yard prior to Douglas. Douglas was arrested and transported to the Madison County Jail without further incident and released on his own recognizance (ROR) at first appearance. Douglas was charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. His previous arrests include battery, VOP, resisting without violence, trespassing, possession of marijuana, intimidate or threaten victim or witness and petit theft.
