Four football players from Madison County High School (MCHS) signed off with their respective colleges during a signing session held on Thursday, April 21, in the MCHS cafeteria.
Tony Wooten, Jr., son of Rebecca Turner and Tony Wooten, Sr., will be attending Tucson Prep. in Tucson, Az.
There, Wooten will play college level football while majoring in engineering. Without his coach, Mike Coe, Wooten said he would have never gotten this far.
“I’m very proud of [Wooten],” said Coach Coe. “I’m looking forward to following his career.”
“I want to see my dreams through,” said Wooten. “Hopefully, I’ll come back [to Madison].”
Kenny McQuay, Jr. will also be heading to Tucson, where he will major in criminal justice while playing football. McQuay wished to thank Coach Coe and McQuay's mother, Roshannoe Powell, for getting him to this point in his life.
“[McQuay] had a tremendous senior year,” said Coe, praising McQuay for the changes he made to his grades and life during the last year.
Christian Brown signed off with Tucson as well and will be majoring in criminal justice. Brown had plenty of individuals he wanted to recognize: his mother, Lisa West; his older brother, Chris; his younger brother, Cameron; his sister, Crystal and Coach Coe. Brown also expressed his gratitude towards God and The Holy Spirit.
Coach Coe praised Brown for his accomplishments and his quick responses on the football field by saying, “He did everything [we had] him do. He’s a great young man.”
Brown stated, “[My coaches and family] got me on the right track.”
MCHS Cowboy Ed Davis will be headed to North Carolina Wesleyan College, in Rocky Mount, NC., where he will play football with the Battling Bishops while majoring in criminal justice. Davis is the son of Edward Davis and Antonia Davis. He thanked his parents, coaches, siblings and God for all they have done to support him.
“[Davis] is a very bright football player, and an even better young man,” said Coe during the signing session. “I’m excited that he gets to further his career and his education.”
Following the signing ceremony, parents and friends were invited to come and get pictures with the four students who have pulled through to have a remarkable year and season.
Congratulations to these Cowboys; the best is yet to come!
