On Friday, Aug. 19, units from the Madison Fire Rescue, Cherry Lake Volunteer Fire Department, New Home Volunteer Fire Department, Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department, Greenville Volunteer Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff's Office, and Madison County EMS responded to a call regarding a house fire in a mobile home located on NE Rocky Ford Rd., at 3:02 a.m.
When first responders arrived on scene, the home was already fulled engulfed in flames and, as a result, the home and everything inside was deemed a total loss.
Due to the amount of damage and the fact that no one was home when the fire started, a State Fire Marshal Investigator was called in to determine the cause and origin of the fire, which, as of press date, has yet to be released.
The resident of the home, Joanna Mitchell, resided there with her three sons. As a result of the fire, the family lost everything. The owner of the home, Ben Jones of Mossy Oak Properties, has put together a donation drive and fundraiser that will help benefit the Mitchell family and get them back on their feet.
Currently, Jones is attempting to gather clothing for Mitchell's sons, who are aged 17, 14 and 10. The sizes needed for shirts are XX large, extra large, and large. Pants sizes for the boys are 46, 38 and 16. Mitchell, herself, is in need of extra large shirts and size 10 pants.
Those interested in donating items may do so by dropping the clothing off at the Mossy Oak Properties office, which is located at 133 NE Horry Ave., in Madison. The office is open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
An account has also been opened in Mitchell's name at Buckeye Community Federal Credit Union, located on Hwy 90, in Madison. Monetary donations are being accepted through that account.
