An election is about to take place in Madison County for a total of six seats on the Madison City Commission and Greenville Town Council. With the exception of Madison City Commission District 5 incumbent Judy Townsend, who is running unopposed, voters will have a choice of at least two qualified candidates in the Tuesday, March 13 election.
Candidates who have qualified for the Madison City Commission are District 1: Candida Akins and Rayne Cooks (Incumbent); District 4: Terry A. Johnson, Shirley D. Joseph, and Princess Roebuck; and District 5: Judy Townsend (Incumbent – running unopposed).
Candidates who have qualified for the Greenville Town Council seats are Group 1: Kovacherich Arnold and Teresa Harville; Group 2: Bobby Burnett and Joi Collins (Incumbent); and Group 5: Cynthia James and Brandi Seabrooks (Incumbent).
Early voting for the Madison City Commission race will begin on Saturday, March 3, and will take place through Saturday, March 10. There will be no early voting for the Greenville Town Council race. The election date for the City of Madison and the Town of Greenville election is Tuesday, March 13.
Due to the nature of the election, town and city hall meetings were rescheduled. Greenville's regular scheduled Town Council meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, at 6 p.m., wherein a swearing-in ceremony for newly elected council members will take place.
