A driver was injured after she lost control of her vehicle and struck a mailbox, a brick column and a tree on Saturday, August 29 at 4:15 p.m., on US 221, four miles south of Greenville. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Sarah Eakins, 77, of Greenville, was traveling north on US 221 clearing a left hand curve when her 2002 Ford Explorer exited the roadway on the east shoulder and traveled down a ditch. Eakins overcorrected her steering while attempting to regain the roadway. The vehicle crossed the roadway traveling to the west side of the roadway and exited onto the west shoulder. The front left of the vehicle struck a mailbox and continued toward a tree line. The left front corner of the vehicle struck a tree. The vehicle glanced off the tree and continued west for approximately 30 feet where the front of the vehicle struck a brick driveway column. The vehicle came to final rest in a driveway, facing north. Eakins received minor injuries and was transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. She was charged with failure to drive in a single lane.
