A driver from Lee was airlifted to Shands of Gainesville after his vehicle rear-ended the back of a semi trailer on U.S. Hwy 90 on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 10:10 a.m. in Lee. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Kyle Sweatt, 24, of Lee was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy 90 behind Alexander Edwards, 21, of Tallahassee. Edwards came to a stop on U.S. Hwy 90 due to road construction east of Birdsong Peanuts. Sweatt failed to stop and the front of his 2009 Nissan Cube collided with the rear of Edwards’ tractor-trailer. Sweatt and Edwards came to a final rest in the eastbound lane facing east. Emergency personnel worked for almost an hour to extricate Sweatt from his vehicle. He was transported by Madison County EMS to a field behind Lee Town Hall and airlifted to Shands of Gainesville. Edwards received no injuries. Charges are pending further investigation of the crash.
