Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that during the early hours of Saturday morning Nov., 28, around 2:23 a.m., Deputy McMullen was dispatched to Quail Hollow Trailer Park concerning a criminal mischief complaint relating to an unruly subject that had thrown a glass beer bottle at a vehicle and busted the windshield. Upon arrival Deputy McMullen met with the victim to obtain the details of the crime and then approached the suspect, Harrall Lenard Sims, 33, of Madison. Deputy McMullen engaged in conversation with Sims, who appeared to be obviously intoxicated, and informed him that he was under arrest. Sims immediately fled on foot across the trailer park. Deputy Dewey, who deployed Canine Max to track Sims, assisted Deputy McMullen. Canine Max successfully tracked Sims to a residence at the trailer park where Sims was located and taken into custody without further incident. Sheriff Stewart further commends the Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit and their ability to excel by having Canines that are multi-trained not only in narcotic detection but fugitive apprehension and tracking of suspects that have fled on foot. The ability to track and locate this suspect allowed for immediate resolution and arrest without further warrant request processing and tying up additional resources and the criminal justice system. Sims was arrested and charged with criminal mischief, throwing missile into vehicle and resisting an officer (without violence).
