Man With Warrant Flees From MCSO Deputy
Submitted by Madison County Sheriff’s Office
Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday, June 20, at 6:50 p.m., a deputy of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office observed Austin Douglas standing in front of KFC on Base Street. The deputy knew Douglas from previous incidents and also knew that Douglas had an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy approached Douglas and told him that there was a warrant for him and he was under arrest. The deputy instructed Douglas to turn around and put his hands behind his back.
Douglas turned around and then fled on foot running in a westerly direction through the parking lot then south into the woods behind Pizza Hut. The deputy pursued Douglas on foot and requested other officers to respond and establish a perimeter. Multiple deputies arrived and surrounded the swampy wooded area with one deputy still engaged in foot pursuit and ordering Douglas to stop.
Douglas continued to flee on foot and attempted to climb a fence when a second perimeter deputy spotted Douglas. The second deputy deployed his department issued Taser X 26 ECD. Douglas immediately fell to the ground and the deputy giving chase took him into custody without further incident.
Douglas complained of shortness of breath and Madison County EMS responded to evaluate him. Douglas was cleared by EMS and transported to the Madison County Jail.
Douglass was arrested for resisting or obstructing a law enforcement officer and a Madison County arrest warrant.
