The Madison County High School varsity boys’ basketball team, led by Coach Allen Demps and Assistant Coach Clarence Graham, traveled to Tallahassee on Tuesday, Dec. 30 to take on the FAMU High Rattlers. The Cowboys have been on a five-game winning streak and had a win in mind when they arrived at FAMU High. The Cowboys took the court for tip-off with center Javon Redding, small forward Relix Daniels, point guard Chris Fead, small forward Trey Livingston, and power forward Jaylon Hazzard. The opposing team won the tip-off, however, the team wouldn’t capitalize from the possession; Javon Redding came up with a steal and a crowd silencing dunk that gained the Cowboys the first two points of the game. The Cowboys were able to maintain the lead for the first half of the game outscoring the Rattlers by ten points going into half time.
The second half of the game, the Cowboys did not let up, displaying a stellar performance offensively and defensively against the Rattlers. The Cowboys maintained their lead against the Rattlers outscoring them by a total of ten points in the second half. The final score of the game was 77-57 extending the Cowboys winning streak to six! Leading scorers for the game were Jaylon Hazzard with 17 points, Javon Redding with 16 points and Relix Daniels with 12 points.
Coach Demps expressed how proud he was of the boys and their overall performance in the game; however, he iterated there is still work to be done. The boys will resume practice for upcoming district games.
