During their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 28, the Madison County Board of County Commissioners passed separate resolutions honoring two special groups of people. The commissioners passed a resolution to honor correction workers in honor of National Correctional Officers Week, which is set for Sunday, May 2 through Saturday, May 8. Both Sheriff David Harper and Madison Correctional Institution (MCI) Warden Amelia Hill spoke of the hard work and dedication of the officers at both MCI and the Madison County Jail.
In another resolution passed by the commissioners, recognition was given to local firefighters for International Firefighters Day. International Firefighters Day took place on Tuesday, May 4, and is a day set aside to honor firefighters for the valuable, life and property-saving services they provide on a daily basis.
The commissioners approved the use of the Madison County Recreation Park for use by the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) summer youth camp. The camp is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8 through Thursday, June 10.
Madison County Emergency Management Director Leigh Basford informed the commissioners that the recent storms in Madison County had downed some tree limbs, but no personal injuries were attributed to the storm. Basford said that wind gusts of 62 miles per hour had been recorded in the Cherry Lake area. The commissioners also passed an updated Madison County comprehensive emergency management plan.
The next regular meeting of the Madison County Board of County Commissioners is set to take place on Wednesday, May 12, at 9 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Courthouse Annex, located at 229 SW Pinckney St., in Madison.
