On Friday, Nov. 4 at 11:23 p.m., Sgt. Mashburn with the Madison Police Department was patrolling the Madison Square Shopping Center when he observed a silver vehicle parked behind the Winn-Dixie building with its lights off, conspicuously as if to be hiding. Sgt. Mashburn then placed his spotlight on the unidentified vehicle and started approaching it. It was then he was able to see two occupants inside the car, one male and one female.
The male, in the driver’s seat, was identified as Adrian Kinsey, age 47 and the female in the passenger seat was identified as Antoriea Cherry, age 18. Sgt. Mashburn stated Kinsey acted very nervous as he approached the vehicle and the smell of alcohol was discovered on Kinsey’s breath. At that time, Sgt. Mashburn asked the passenger, Cherry to step out of the car so they could speak in private.
Cherry advised that Kinsey picked her up in front of Winn-Dixie with the intentions of taking her to a homeless shelter in Tallahassee. Cherry told the responding officer she and Kinsey have been talking via telephone and she had called him to come pick her up. When asked if anything sexual transpired between the two individuals behind Winn-Dixie, she assured the officer they were doing nothing sexual; she was just going through a rough patch and just needed someone to talk too.
Once done interviewing Cherry, Sgt. Mashburn then approached Kinsey. Kinsey stated he took Cherry behind Winn-Dixie to talk because he has a wife and people within the city “talk.” When asked about the alcohol, Kinsey admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that day but denied any sexual correspondence between himself and Cherry. Kinsey advised he and Cherry were neighbors and he was trying to help her through a rough patch in her life.
At that time, both individuals were read their Miranda warnings and at which time Kinsey stayed with his initial story.
However, according to Madison Police Department reports, Cherry changed her story once she was placed inside the patrol vehicle. Cherry told Sgt. Mashburn she and Kinsey had been talking sexually via telephone for a couple of weeks. Cherry walked from the Courtyard Apartments and met with Kinsey in front of the Winn-Dixie parking lot. Once parked behind the building, Kinsey then asked Cherry what she wanted to do. After Cherry responded by saying, “I don’t know,” Kinsey took control and tried to start sexual activity by “guiding her body over his genital area.” It was at this Sgt. Mashburn arrived and sexual activity came to a stop.
After both individuals were taken into custody, Sgt. Mashburn searched Kinsey’s car and found two personal bottles of liquor: whiskey and rum.
Kinsey and Cherry were both arrested for loitering/prowling and transported to the Madison County Jail without incident.
