On Monday, Sept. 19, the Board of Madison County Commissioners held their final public hearing for the fiscal year 2016-17 budget and millage rate. The board unanimously passed Resolution 2016-09-19A, which called for a millage rate of 10.000. The board also unanimously passed Resolution 2016-09-19B, which called for a balanced budget of just over $10 million at $10,143,479 for fiscal year 2016-17. This is the first time in several years that the county has begun the fiscal year with a balanced budget.
The recent settlement with Nestle Waters, in which the value of Nestle Waters property was reduced, resulted in an approximate $97,000 loss in revenue to the county. However this was able to be offset with revenue owed from previous years. This allowed the budget to be balanced, but that particular revenue source will no longer be available. County departments are still being asked to cut costs as much as possible.
The next scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners’ will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. at the Commissioners meeting room at the Courthouse Annex, located at 229 SW Pickney St., in Madison.
