With a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow headed for the Big Bend, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) is urging motorists to exercise caution when driving on interstates, overpasses, bridges and other roadways that may ice over. The National Weather Service is predicting a winter storm with a potential for significant snow, sleet and ice to impact north Florida from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon, including Madison County. The FDEM urges residents to protect themselves, their plants, pets and exposed pipes and practice fire safety. Among the safety measures the FDEM recommends: Stay indoor and use safe heating sources; be aware of the fire danger from space heaters and candles; and when outdoors, stay dry and in wind-protected areas and wear multiple layers of loose-fitting warm clothing.
