Coach Hawkins Talks Cowgirls Basketball

Last week the Cowgirls looked to continue their winning streak facing Florida High, Taylor and Hamilton County on Thursday, Dec. 11; Friday, Dec. 12; and Saturday, Dec. 13.

Thursday, the Cowgirls traveled to Tallahassee to face District 2-4A foe, Florida High. Under Coach Hawkins, the Cowgirls have never beaten Florida High. The Cowgirls entered the game 2-0 in the district. The first quarter saw the Cowgirls get off to a slow start. Florida High took a 15 to 11 first quarter lead. The Cowgirls made a few adjustments and never looked back after the second quarter. The Cowgirls were paced by Cobb with 26 points and seven steals. Tameira Mobley had 16 points. Henderson and Long added six points and eight points respectively and contributed 10 rebounds each.

On Friday the Cowgirls traveled to Taylor County for another District 2-4A matchup, as well as a rivalry game. The Cowgirls came focused and put together a well-rounded game. Cobb led her team with 29 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Tameira Mobley contributed with 19 points. Sophomore Josie Long had another solid game with eight points and six rebounds.

The Cowgirls finished up their week by hosting neighbor and rival Hamilton County. The Cowgirls banded together to finish their week off strong. With a total team effort the Cowgirls extended their winning streak to eight games defeating Hamilton 60-34.

The JV Cowgirls finished the week 2-1 with a loss at Florida High and two impressive wins against Taylor County and Hamilton County. JV moved to 7-4 on the season. The Varsity Cowgirls moved to 9-2 on the season. As the first half of the season draws to a close the Cowgirls finish up with a road game on Dec. 18 and Dec. 20 at Brooks County, Ga. The Varsity Cowgirls then take to the road for a holiday tournament in Cumming, Ga at West Forsyth High School. In the Cowgirls’ Bracket, are teams from Tennessee and California.
