Phyllis Williams was declared the new Executive Director of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism by the Chamber Board of Directors during the board meeting held on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
Williams is originally from Perry, Fl., but moved to Madison with her family at the age of nine, in 1964. She is a 1973 graduate of Madison County High School and received her Associate's degree from North Florida Community College.
Before her job at the Chamber, Williams held a lot of positions in and out of the Madison County community. She worked for Big Bend Hospice for four years as the community relations coordinator and got involved with the Chamber through that employment experience. She also owned her own Spanish imports business and worked for Joe P. Burns Funeral Home at the Perry and Madison locations. She plans to continue to help out the funeral home during visitations and funerals.
As executive director, Williams has many job duties that she takes great pride and enthusiasm in, including planning presentations and out of town meetings. She also will represent the Chamber at several local events; in fact, her first official public event was the Buckeye Community Federal Credit Union ribbon cutting ceremony.
“I love planning and doing events,” said Williams. “The most rewarding part [of this job] is going to be bringing together businesses and individuals that can complement each other and meet each others needs.”
Williams is very excited about serving the Madison County community as Executive Director of the Chamber. “I welcome input and suggestions on how to better serve businesses and the agriculture community [in Madison],” said Williams.
In her spare time, Williams enjoys arts and crafts and spending time with her very big family. Williams and her husband, Wayne, have been married for 26 years. Together, they have three children, in addition to Wayne's children. In total, they have 12 grandchildren.
