Gas prices are at an all-time high, and Madison is faced with having the highest gas prices amongst our surrounding counties. How do you feel about that? Do you have any ideas that would help our county in lowering gas prices?
Robinson Sad but true I have pretty much stopped buying gas in Madison. I work in Tallahassee and it is at least 10 to 20 cents cheaper a gallon than it is in Madison and when you burn as much gas as I do you have to go w/ the cheaper price. I hate not supporting our local business and something needs to be done. What is this gas tax we have that makes our gas so high? We have been in Madison for a little over 10yrs and I have yet to see that money be used for anything so why are paying it? I think it is time we start speaking up or we will see a lot oor gas stations shutting down and more people out of work.
Bryant I agree. Because of the economy, businesses are downsizing and are laying people off. It makes it even harder for individuals to make ends meet. There is no way an individual can survive in Madison on minimum wage, and buy gas. It's getting horrible, and i've got a feeling it's gonna get worst before it gets better.
John OPEC increasing production to lower our gas prices? I think not! That would only provide a temporary reduction in cost for the refineries. Take a good look at the big picture. Speculators (traders) are the ones pushing the price of oil up. They are online trying to make a buck trading barrels of oil. Buying at todays prices and making it available to others but only at a higher price (they have to make money you know). Unfortunately for the rest of us this is a never ending story. Unless we are looking for a large drop in trading prices, We are never going to see a large decrease in price. The best thing as I see it would be to take oil off the commodities list. Put things back the way it should be, the refineries buying what they can refine and not to individuals trying to make a buck at our expense.
Old Timer Hello neighbor, we have been neighbors for years and you are a very dear friend, I love you and would do anything for you, and Iknow you would for me. All i ask is would you pleeease keep your cat at home while the baby birds are hatching and in their nest??? My wife feeds these birds year round and it breaks my heart to see her and the kids in the yard crying over an injured bird or your cat with a baby bird in its mouth.I know the cat stays over here year round and that is OK . But is it asking too much to ask you to keep your cat at home 2 months out of 12????
Vicky ok, you're paying 4.12+ a gallon? I'll quit complaining about the 3.88 I pay in Pinellas County...
Neophite I think this is a wonderful idea for the citizens of Madison. Has anyone heard of any coming businesses to Madison?
Robin Sparks Higher taxes? To pay for brand new equipment? Why can't the county use older, less expensive machines.Moter graders and dump trucks.why we see all this new equipment sitting around. This is what we pay for.Garbage collection sites.lot a money is being spent to open the door for garbage to be scattered up and down the highway. There is a lot of waste in madison county. Wake up and look whats happening.Let new industries in so we can get some help.

I noted the following comments from Robin:
"... brand new equipment? Why can't the county use older, less expensive machines...." I want the county to ave the best equipment-when a storm hits or an emergency occurs it is too important to have old equipment breakdown just when it is needed most.

"Garbage collection sites.lot a money is being spent to open the door for garbage to be scattered up and down the highway."
I think Madison is one of the cleanest counties in Florida. I drive through several counties to see my grandchildren and I observe more roadside trash where there are no attended collection sites. Madison solid waste is doing a great job.

"There is a lot of waste in madison county. Wake up and look whats happening."
I think this unsupported statement is not correct. While there are some possible economies to be had the county budget is pretty slim and very efficient. With the performance of the schools (most of the budget) I would think any decrease would really hurt.

"Let new industries in so we can get some help."
If the workforce is not ready any industry would have a hard time operating. I suggest more education of the workforce is a better solution.

Old Timer One fact we have to face if we live in Madison is that the County Commisionersm and the "first Families" don't give a hoot about the working poor. They are going to tax you and bleed you as much and  as long as they can.  Also I would like to know what constitutes a "first family"?? Does charging the people more for your product than any other county in the state make them the "FIRST IN YOUR POCKET"??
Former Resident Of Greenville I recently return to Greeville for a short visited, and I noticed all the surround counties are growing except Greenville. I also noticed they are building a house in honor of Ray Charles. As a child i do not recall Ray Charles doing anything for the people of Greenville to be reward such an honor. The most important question is who will pay the yearly taxes and the up keep on this place?
Robin Sparks You folks that curse and complain about electric been interrupted durring a storm. You talk bad about tri county.well if you would allow them to cut back those trees that interrupt the service you might have less problems.I for one commend tri county for their effort to restore our power. For me.I don't expect them to get out in bad weather and work on a power line so I can watch tv.We have plenty of time to prepare for a storm. So if you are caught without power no water or food, you the one thats at fault. When that limb that you so much admire falls on the line and shuts your power off go out in the rain and wind and cut it off so.
Madison Cracker Talking about the trash problem in Madison.  I wish we could get the prison to let the prisoners sort the trash and we could recyle better.  Has anyone thought about that.  They have the help
John Just when did it become ok to increase prices of gas when an evacuation was taking place?  I thought there were laws in place to protect us from this type of price gouging.
Robin Sparks I was entering the Madison County court room and I noticed that you could walk right on up the stairs and enter the room and no one even noticed. If someone had the mind to,they could come off the street and enter the court room and assault a lot of people.Their needs to be a security gaurd at the entrance of the court room before a tragidy happens.
