Incapacitating head injuries. Just the sound of that is frightening. It can happen so fast, and the effects can be devastating.
Friday, April 11, Marci Blair Scanlan of Pinetta was a passenger on the back of a Harley Davidson motorcycle when the operator lost control of the bike. What was supposed to be an enjoyable spring weekend at a bike rally near Unadilla, Georgia, ended with the young woman being transported by Meda-Vac to the ICU at Macon Medical Trauma Center, with what was described as “incapacitating head injuries.”
And, as with most head injuries of that kind, recovery can be long and arduous.
Marci was able to come home Tuesday, April 22, but faces possible neck surgery in the future. Family and friends have stepped up to help with donations and fundraisers, such as setting up a bank account at Madison County Community Bank, where people can make donations. Just tell them at the bank that, “It’s for Marci Scanlan.”
On Friday, May 2, there will be a big fundraiser to help Marci and her family along the road to her recovery, including a dinner and raffle tickets for more than two dozen prizes, at the Gazebo in Four Freedoms Park from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The dinners ($7) will include chicken, potato salad, green beans, rolls and dessert.
There will be $5 raffle tickets, with more than two dozen prizes, more than we have room to list. The wide range of prizes will appeal to everyone, men and women – gift cards from Studstills, Brenda’s Styles, Greenville Fertilizer, Rajun Cajun or the Coco Company Clothing Store in Perry, to name just a few; a free haircut from Cuts By Janice, a shampoo, cut and style from Falling Waters Spa, a free Photo Shoot from Memory Lane/Renata Keeling, a free month at Curves of Madison, a chocolate cake from Mrs. Leslie’s Cakes, a piece of jewelry from Premier Designs by Brenda Poppel, and a free oil change from Hall’s Tire & Muffler as well as from Auto Repair & Service at 255.
Finally, the will be a separate raffle, with $10 tickets for something everybody could use, a $200 gas card from Johnson & Johnson.
For more information on the May 2 event, look for the flyers posted around downtown or contact Chrystal Barrs at (850) 973-7246, Charlene Rye at (386) 292-9201 or Dollie Meggs Premorel at (850) 973-7345.
Marci and her family would like to say thank you for all the thoughts, prayers and encouragement during this horrible accident. They would like to convey to all how grateful they are for all the support that they have received.
