With school just recently out for the young ones, it’s doubtful that many of them are already thinking about getting ready to go back to school.
However, for the Madison County Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Coalition, and its major partners, NFCC, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the AKA Sorority, the Madison County Health Department and the Madison County School District, plans are already underway with solitcitations for individual donations for the Aug. 9, 2014 “Back To School – Stay In School” event at NFCC’s Fitness Center.
Coalition spokesperson Jerome Wyche addressed the Madison County Commission at their June 11 meeting to let the board know that plans were taking shape for the huge event, which distributes free school supplies to Madison Country school children and gets them ready to go back to school well prepared.
Last year, 1,700 parents and students attended the event, which included information booths and free hot dogs for everyone, in addition to the school supplies, most of which were purchased locally.
“I think we bought out Fred’s last year,” said Wyche, who promised to have a far more detailed story about the upcoming event ready for the newspaper within a few days.
