According to a report from the Madison Police Department (MPD), on Saturday, Aug. 5, at approximately 6:50 a.m., MPD Officer Korey was dispatched to the Brush Away Car Wash, located at the corner of Millinor and South Duval Avenue, in Madison, in reference to a possible armed robbery. There, Officer Korey made contact with the victim. Officer Korey reported that the victim stated he was at the Fast Track convenience store when John Lee Jackson asked him for a ride to Springhills Apartments. The victim stated that when the two arrived at C and E Marketplace, across from Springhills Apartments, Jackson asked him for $10. The victim stated he pulled out his wallet, then Jackson pulled out a knife and stabbed him three times in his right hand and took his wallet. The victim stated Jackson was last seen walking toward Springhills Apartments. According to Officer Korey’s report, the victim received several cuts to his right hand and wrist and was treated by Emergency Medical Services.
On Monday, Aug. 7, at approximately 11:55 a.m., MPD Officer J. Akins was dispatched to the Madison County Jail to make contact with Jackson. Jackson was then transported to the MPD. He was read and advised of his rights. Jackson waived his rights and was then sworn in. Jackson was interviewed by MPD Capt. Chris Cooks. During the interview, Jackson stated that while he was riding to Springhills Apartments, the victim started asking him for sex and was touching him. Jackson stated that when they arrived on Georgetown Road, the victim pulled out his wallet. Jackson stated he then snatched the victim’s wallet and ran. Jackson stated the wallet had approximately $500 in it, which he spent buying clothing and shoes. Jackson stated he did not cut the victim and if the victim received any injuries, they were from his fingernails.
Upon completing the interview, Jackson was placed under arrest and transported to the Madison County Jail. Jackson was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and robbery with a weapon, both of which are felonies.
