MPD Crime Reports

On Friday 02-22-13 at 1100 pm , Ptl. Jerrod Dewey of the Madison Police dept. was dispatched to the intersection of SE Bunker St. and Byrd Ave. in ref. to a suspicious persons. On arrival , Dewey made contact with a B/M suspect who appeared to be severely inebriated. The B/M smelled strongly of intoxicating beverage with slurred speech and soiled clothing. While investigating the complaint and interviewing the suspect, Ptl. Dewey identified the suspect as Kima Mcdaniel. It was also discovered that Mcdaniel was in possession of a narcotic medication without a prescription. Mcdaniel was belligerent with officers and could not keep his balance while speaking with officers. At this time, Mcdaniel was placed under arrest for Possession of controlled substance and disorderly conduct.

On Saturday 02-23-13 at 735 am, Ptl. Anthony Land was dispatched to 255 SW Shelby Ave. in ref. to burglary to a vehicle. On arrival, the complainant advised Ptl. Land that someone had burglarized two vehicles at his residence. The complainant advised that he had firearm missing and a undisclosed amount of currency. Ptl. Land processed the vehicles for any evidence. No suspects at this time.

On Sunday 02-24-13 at 813 pm, Cpl. Eric Gilbert was dispatched to the Dollar General in ref. to a suspicious person. On arrival, Gilbert identified the suspect as Darrlyn Joseph. While questioning Joseph, Gilbert patted down Joseph for any weapons. During the pat down, Joseph threw a crack pipe on the hood of Gilberts patrol car. Gilbert also noticed a white plastic bag two packs of men’s brief. Gilbert entered the Dollar General and watched the store’s surveillance video and discovered that Joseph had stole the underwear. Darrlyn Joseph was placed under arrest for Poss. of Drug paraphernalia and Retail Theft.

MPD Conducting Sobriety Checkpoint This Friday Evening

The Madison Police Department will conduct a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint, beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, and ending at midnight Saturday morning, Aug. 20.

“As you know, drinking and driving is a large problem within our community,” MPD Sgt. Ben Ebberson said in a press release. “In order to help make the community safe, the City of Madison Police Department will be hosting a DUI Sobriety Checkpoint and Safety Inspection within the city limits.”

The Zero Tolerance Safety Checkpoint and Safety Inspections will be located near W. Base Street and Madison Square Shopping Center

Meeting To Be Held For Potential Explorers

Madison Police Chief Gary Calhoun announces that the new Madison Police Explorer Post is having an Open House on Thursday, January 27 at 7 p.m. in the Criminal Justice Building (Building 35) at North Florida Community College.
This will be an informational meeting for potential Explorers (people from 14-20 who are interested in law enforcement). Parents are welcome to attend.
