Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Tuesday morning the 8th day of January 2013, Cpl. Kevin Anderson assigned to the Interstate Criminal Enforcement unit conducted a traffic stop on a black Honda SUV West Bound at mile marker 244 on Interstate 10 for illegal window tint. During the traffic stop, Cpl. Anderson detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the Honda. The driver identified himself as Edwin Thomas Mattox of Tallahassee Florida. Cpl. Anderson noticed that Mattox appeared to be attempting to conceal something in his waist line. Cpl. Anderson then ordered Mattox out of the Honda and instructed him to walk back to the front of Cpl. Andersons patrol vehicle. Mattox exited the Honda and walked to the front of his vehicle and attempted to discard something from his pants. Cpl. Anderson immediately grabbed Mattox and could clearly see a large bulge. Cpl. Anderson removed a gallon size plastic bag from Mattox’s waistline that contained a large amount of high grade marijuana. Mattox was placed under arrest without further incident. The marijuana had a total weight of 8 ounces and had a street value of approximately $3,200.00.Mattox was arrested and charged as follows:
