Man Arrested On Drunk Driving Charges

A man was arrested on multiple charges after he ran a stop sign and traveled into a ditch on Saturday evening, Sept. 29.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Craig L. Solomon, 23, of Madison, was traveling south on SE Arnett Avenue.
Solomon failed to stop at the stop sign on SE Arnett at SE Farm Road and his 1989 Cadillac came to a final rest, facing south. Read full story Here

Sheriff’s Office To Conduct DUI Checkpoint on Aug. 27

Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Saturday the 27th day of August 2011 beginning at 7:30 PM and ending at 2:00 AM, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a DUI / Safety and Patrol Saturation check point in Madison County. This Zero Tolerance DUI Safety Check Point will be located in the city of Greenville at US Highway 90 and Haffye Street. The Sheriff’s Office will be joined by the City of Madison Police Department, the Florida Department of Transportation as well as Neighboring Sheriff’s Offices.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports annual statistics that indicate a continued involvement of motorist driving under the influence and multiple safety violations. It is the goal of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to discourage motorist from driving under the influence and ensure they are keeping their vehicles in safe working order. This will further promote a safer environment for all motorists traveling the highways in Madison County. Violators identified at the check point and during the Patrol Saturation will be dealt with according to Florida Law.

FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL RELEASES RESULTS FROM HOLIDAY ENFORCEMENT CAMPAIGN

~ Patrol arrests nearly 500 motorists for impaired driving ~
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Col. John Czernis, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, announced the preliminary enforcement results from the Patrol’s participation in the nationwide Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest. campaign.
During the 19-day heightened enforcement period, the Patrol beefed up its force by having troopers postpone administrative duties in favor of road patrols and adding reservists and auxiliary troopers to patrol duty.
Troopers issued nearly 41,000 traffic citations and made 474 arrests for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol or drugs. They cited more than 13,000 drivers for speeding and nearly 4,000 for failure to buckle up.  In addition, there were 56 traffic-related fatalities during the enforcement campaign.
“Our troopers worked hard to help our residents and visitors have a safe and enjoyable holiday period,” said Czernis. “Motorists who operate their vehicles in an unsafe fashion are a danger that puts innocent lives at risk. The men and women of the Florida Highway Patrol did their part to identify the unsafe drivers and take thesteps necessary to decrease that risk.”
The members of the Florida Highway Patrol would like to remind everyone that it is the law to Move Over when approaching any authorized emergency vehicle or wrecker displaying rotating or flashing lights stopped on the side of a roadway. Also, remember that *FHP (*347) dialed from you cell phone contacts FHP should you need to report an aggressive driver or require roadside assistance.
