Aucilla Cheerleaders Attend Camp In Orlando
Greene Publishing, Inc.
Whoever says cheerleading isn’t a sport has never attended a serious cheerleading camp. The Aucilla junior varsity and varsity squads attended their annual cheerleading summer camp in July.
Camp this year was at Fellowship Of Christian Cheerleaders in Rosen Shingle Creek Resort Orlando.
The girls attended cheer, stunt and dance class every day. During these classes the girls were taught new cheers, stunts and dances and were also able to improve the skills they already have. After classes each night the girls had to go to evaluation. Between classes, they had a brief, five-minute water break and were straight back to work.
The leaders of the camp awarded a handful of girls from the entire camp, which consisted of eight squads from all over the state, with All Stars’ awards. Four girls from Aucilla received All Stars’ awards. They were Kinzi Mattingly, Brooke Kinsley, Sunnie Sorensen and Jenny Jackson.
The girls from Aucilla won several awards. JV won the Home Cheer Competition and second place in the overall camp championship. Varsity was a finalist in the camp championship. Kinzi Mattingly won the Jump Jam competition for the best jumps of all the JV cheerleaders attending camp. Other finalists in the JV division were Jenny Jackson and Emma Witmer. Jump Jam Finalists in the Varsity division were Sunnie Sorensen, Stacie Brock and Brooke Kinsley. Finalists in the camp Tumble Jam competition from JV were Cali Burkett, Jenny Jackson, Kinzi Mattingly and Kate Whiddon.

In spite of overcast skies threatening rain, the Madison Cowboy varsity and junior varsity cheerleaders did well with their chicken ‘n’ rice dinner fundraiser Friday, July 8, in front of the Madison County Courthouse.
The girls sold chicken dinner plates (including the chicken ‘n’ rice, green beans, a bread-and-butter pickle, bread, dessert, and a drink) for $6 each, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and raised approximately $1,500. The proceeds go toward paying their expenses for cheerleading camp at the University of Florida, July 29 through August 1.

Ceira Roland Cheers Her Way To The Top
By Kristin Finney
Greene Publishing, Inc.
Ceira Roland is more than just your average 17-year old. She is the proud daughter of Shane and Lisa Roland. She is a senior at Aucilla Christian Academy and currently has a GPA of 3.87. After high school, Ciera plans to attend North Florida Community College for two years and later got to Florida State University to become a Pediatric Nurse.
However, until that time comes, Ciera is filling her schedule with one thing, cheerleading. She is currently a cheerleader for Aucilla as well as for the Taylor Elite Super Stars, a competition cheerleading team out of Perry. Ceira has cheered for Aucilla for two years, and Taylor Elite for one year. Taylor Elite Super Stars practice two days a week during off weeks. On the weeks of competitions they practice up to four days a week.
Ceira has been in three competitions with the Taylor Elite Super Stars so far. They placed first in both the Diamond National Championship in Albany, Ga., and the Nature Coast Classic Regionals. The group also took second in the COA Sunshine Nationals in Orlando. They also plan to attend the Sun Jam in Jacksonville and Reach the Beach Nationals in Daytona this season.
“My favorite part of cheerleading is the rush of adrenaline when my team performs. I love how all of our hard work pays off. We practice so much to get everything perfect. So, when competition comes, we are ready to do our best. I also like to learn new things. I have been able to accomplish different types of stunts and tumbling that I haven’t ever done before,” explained Ceira.
When asked why she chose Taylor Elite, Ceira told this reporter, “What brought me to Taylor Elite was one of the teachers at Aucilla. She started Taylor Elite 10 years ago. She told me about how much fun it would be. She has been trying to get me to do it for about two years. Another reason that brought me to Taylor Elite was my friends. Some of my friends at Aucilla are or were on the team and they told me about how much fun it was. So I said, ‘Sure, count me in!’”
As for embarrassing falls or mess-ups Ciera said, “So far I haven’t had any, but I’m sure that there is one to come.”
When asked what advice she would give to people who want to get involved in cheerleading, she explained, “It’s a lot of hard work! You can’t go into it expecting it to be easy. Every day is a new challenge. I would tell them to stretch a lot, practice and always stay positive.”

Madison Academy Cheerleaders Celebrate A Great Season
A team must put in countless hours preparing for game day. They must train, work, and condition their bodies to compete at the highest level and this is just the cheerleading squad! The Madison Academy cheerleaders have put in hours of practice during school and after school preparing for each Panther basketball game.
The Panther cheerleaders attended every home game this year and cheered their team to victory. The girls had to remember many different cheers, along with the routines to each cheer. The Madison Academy cheerleaders also showed off their talents during each halftime by doing amazing routines and cheers to pump the fans up.
Madison Academy offers cheerleading to any fourth and fifth grade student who can handle the intense pressures of performing in the spotlight.
The Panther cheerleaders were coached by Cathy Rogers and Jamie Andrews. The coaches were fantastic and made sure each cheerleader was always prepared on and off the court. They offered a wonderful opportunity for the young girls and this experience will stick with them forever.
The Madison Academy basketball team would also like to thank the cheerleaders for being in attendance and picking them up throughout the season. Great job, cheerleaders!
