Madison County 12 and Under team WINS AGAIN.

12U Boys

Submitted by Brian Annett
The same 12U team that “stole the show” in the District Tournament back in June repeated their performance this past weekend at the Babe Ruth Baseball State Tournament in Live Oak, Florida July 14-17. Madison opened up with San Jose from Jacksonville and suffered its first loss on the tournament trail, losing 10-0 in the State Tournament opener. “We were sick after that first game, and worried about how the boys would respond”, said head coach Brian Annett. The coaches and parents got their answer pretty quickly as the team disposed of Tallahassee the following day 11-10, Melrose 11-7 (Gainesville), Atlantic Beach (Jacksonville) 16-0, Suwannee 10-0, and then beat a talented Atlantic Beach team in the Championship game 7-3. “There is no question the right team is advancing to the Regional Tournament. This team is physically fit, mentally fit, and getting better at the game of baseball every day. It would have been so easy to throw in the towel after the first game with San Jose but our boys (Madison boys)didn’t quit”, said Annett. Now the team will trade in their Madison Jersey’s for TEAM FLORIDA jersey’s. The team will depart to face teams from the Bahamas, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Kentucky at the Babe Ruth Regional Tournament in Aiken, SC. “From what I’ve been told this age division has made history here in Madison County by being the first 11 and 12 year old group to wear a Florida jersey, that’s huge. These kids will remember this for the rest of their lives and us coaches feel lucky to be along for the ride”. Annett also said he was impressed with the local support at the game on Sunday. “It was overwhelming, I don’t think I’ve seen that many people at a game before and our boys played a heck of a game for them”. Traveling to this tournament will be costly. If you or your business would like to support this team, here’s your opportunity. The team will be accepting donations for an authentic autographed team photo, this Thursday, July 21, on the courthouse lawn from 11-1pm. Come show your support!

Rookie Cowboys Capture State Title

all-stars

The Madison County Rookie (8 and Under) baseball team showed up in Palm Beach Gardens with a fighting spirit full of determination to win a state title. That they did in a mighty sweep! The team played five games during the tournament and won all five to capture the State title.
The team started play on Friday with a convincing win against Ft. Caroline, 10 – 5. With another impressive display of hitting talent, the team beat Longwood 12 – 4 on Saturday. Back again to the diamond on Sunday, the team took down Julington Creek with a score of 13 – 0. These wins advanced Madison Rookie team to the state championship finals on Monday. The team rallied Monday morning and dominated the field with great skill by beating Atlantic Beach, 18 – 4. Heading into play, Mother Nature had different plans by sending an untimely bout of rain that put the game into a “rain delay”.
Later that afternoon, the team hit the field for one last game. In a nail biter against Julington Creek, the Rookie team proved they were definitely the champions by pulling a 5 to 5 game in the 6th inning to a 10 to 5 lead, leaving Julington Creek behind.
Madison truly dominated the games in the tournament by the offensive hitting talent however, in the 5th and final game it was won due to their defensive play. The Cowboys actually turned not one, not two, but three legitimate 6-4-3 double plays. One of the double plays came with one out, bases loaded, and a tie ballgame with the double play ending the inning. The opponents were speechless. With a combined team batting average of .664 in the five games played during the State tournament, the Rookie team represented Madison County in an impressive fashion. Not only did the team show up in a strong manner but the incredible support of the parents, family and friends was astonishing!
The team was cheered on by a large amount of fans, which meant a great deal to each player on the team as well as the coaches. The Rookie team family would like to thank all the sponsors, supporters, and well-wishers that granted them the incredible opportunity to become the STATE CHAMPS!! WAY TO GO, COWBOYS!!!!

The 8U All Star team traveled to Lake City this past weekend and competed in the Cal Ripken North Florida State Qualifier.
Madison’s first opponent in the tournament was Bradford, who they defeated 17-0 in 4 innings.
In the second game, Madison took the field against Suwannee’s All Stars and ended the game in three innings with an 18-0 score.
The third and final game had Madison paired with Branford. Our boys ended this game also in three innings, putting another 17 runs across the plate, while holding Branford to three scoreless innings.
When the dust had settled, Madison scored 52 runs in three games, while allowing no runs by their opponents.
By going undefeated and winning their bracket, Madison has qualified for a return trip to Palm Beach Gardens to represent the Madison County Babe Ruth League in the State Tournament. Last year, Madison finished second in the State and our boys are hoping to best that this year by winning the State Title.
To do this, the team needs the community’s continued support. To date, we have sold raffle tickets, watermelons and chicken and rice dinners in an effort to help cover the expenses of uniforms, tournament fees, traveling and lodging. Our team truly appreciates everything this community has done to support this team, but we need your continued support.
If you are interested in sponsoring our team, please call Billy Tolar or send your check, made payable to: Madison County Babe Ruth League, c/o Billy Tolar, 317 SW Osceola Way, Greenville, FL 32331. Please call 850.673.7957 if you have any questions or would like your donation picked up.
