Madison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that on Friday the 11th day of January, 2013 Deputy Joey Knight was patrolling Greenville near Hwy 90 W and US 221 N when he observed a Blue passenger car stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of US 90 and 221. Deputy Knight further observed the blue passenger car turn West onto Hwy 90 spinning the tires and accelerating rapidly in a reckless manner. Deputy Knight pursued the blue passenger car and conducted a traffic stop on US 90 near Petis Springs Road. As Deputy Knight approached the vehicle on foot he observed the driver appear to be attempting to conceal something.Deputy Knight requested Sgt. Dennis Pitts for routine assistance. Deputy Knight recognized the driver as Michael Miller of Greenville, Florida and ordered Miller out of the vehicle and conducted a pat down for weapons finding none. During the pat down Deputy Knight discovered a cigarette pack in Millers right front pants pocket and Miller granted for permission for Deputy Knight to look inside. Deputy Knight located two small straws with a white powder residue on the straw ends inside the cigarette pack. Deputy Knight recognized the straws had been used to consume illegal narcotics. Deputy Knight also located a small plastic baggy containing a white powder believed to be cocaine inside the cigarette pack.
Deputy Knight used a presumptive cocaine field test kit and received a positive result identifying the substance as cocaine. Deputy Knight placed Miller under arrest without incident. During the arrest Miller claimed the cocaine and stated that it was for personal use. Miller was transported to the Madison County Jail and charged with the following:
