Barry Lee “Mayor” Scroggs, 66, of Pinetta, Florida peacefully entered his heavenly home, Saturday, August 18, 2012. He was born August 5, 1946, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Myron L. and Barbara E. Wormlight Scroggs, who have both predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his brother, Donald Thomas Scroggs.
Barry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Dianne (Keeling) Scroggs; his daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Anne and Jerry Borgert; his three grandsons, Corey Lee, Riley Gene and Wesley Joe Borgert, all of Pinetta, and his brother, David (Patricia) Scroggs, of Homestead, Florida.
Barry was raised in a military family and moved a lot during his childhood. At the age of 18, he decided to make Homestead, Florida, his home where he resided for 41 years. He was employed by the US Civil Service, Department of Defense at Homestead Air Force Base, for 36 years.
He was an active member of the Homestead Rodeo Association for a number of years; enjoyed fishing and camping with family and friends. Upon moving to Pinetta in 2006, he became a member of the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church. His favorite pastime other than hanging out with the guys at Pinetta Market, was watching his grandsons play baseball and being involved in their activities as much as his health would allow.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his memory to Shands @UF Cardiovascular Unit (Shands Transplant Center or Ventricular Assist Device Program). Services will be held at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel on Saturday, August 25, at 10:00 AM , followed by a graveside service at Mt. Horeb in Pinetta. There will be no viewing or visitation.
