The Photographic Treasures of Madison County, on downtown Range Street next to the RATT Pact Theater, houses more than just photographs. For the next few weeks, this series will look briefly at some of the more unusual bits and pieces of history that have found a safe haven in the little museum, funded by donations (no admittance charge) and staffed entirely by volunteers.
If you wanted to look back through some old high school yearbooks, you might think of the local library. But if you wanted to look at some really, really, really vintage Madison High School yearbooks, going all the way back to 1928 (when the yearbook was printed on mimeograph paper), Photographic Treasures has a set available for the browsing. The only year missing is 1929, due to the stock market crash. No one in town had any money to buy the ads that would have sponsored a yearbook, so none was produced.Come on in and take a look.
