Cora Thigpen, a life long Madison County resident, celebrated her 101st birthday on Friday, April 29. She is a resident at Lake Park of Madison. She plays the piano and stays active at the nursing home. She is the mother of nine children, four of whom are deceased. They are Edward Williams, Issac (Billman) Williams, Edwin Earl Williams, and Joyce Evelyn Williams. Her five living children are Edgar Williams, Raymond Williams, Barbara Rodgers, Bonnie Terrell and Carroll Williams. She is also the stepmother of seven children: Hazel Lorina Eakin, Louella Thompson, Thomas Thigpen, W.H. Thigpen, Lilly Moore, Myrtle Partain and Myrtice Hagan.
Ms. Thigpen has always enjoyed music and still enjoys playing the piano. She worked at the Lee Junior High School cafeteria for most of her life and later retired from there. She is a lover of flowers and working in the garden. She is also an avid quilter. She is also a lover of her children and of God. She is a member of Midway Baptist Church.
