The Suwannee Valley Humane Society is having their annual Pet Show this Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Suwannee County Coliseum in Live Oak. This is the 28th show the Suwannee shelter has hosted and it is their largest fundraiser for the year. Proceeds from the event will raise money for the shelter and will directly help the animals by providing funds for spay and neuter programs, food, medicine and personal care. Bring your pet dressed for Halloween to compete for best costume or enter them to win ribbons in one or more of the other 30 competition categories. Some of the contest categories include owner look-a-like, most unusual name, ugliest dog, cutest cat, longest tail and shortest ears. Your pet also has a chance to win a “Best in Show” trophy. Tickets will be available for purchase to enter raffle drawings that will include prizes donated by local Suwannee Valley businesses. If you work up an appetite while there, refreshments in the way of hot dogs, chili, chips and soda will be available. Baked goods made by the shelter staff will also be available for purchase. Help support the Humane Society by coming out for a day of fun. Bring your pet(s) and compete or simply give your dog or cat some socialization time and have fun just watching the show. Registration for contests start at 10 a.m. and judging will begin at 11 a.m. To enter your pet in a contest, the fee will be $1 per category. For additional information, you can call the shelter by 2 p.m. Friday at (850) 971-9904 or call their toll free number at (866) 236-7812.
