Mr. and Mrs. Tom Webb are having a new porch put on their home. Mr. and Mrs. T.S. Livingston sold their home in east Madison the past week to Mr. Will Loper, who has been living on the Hickok place, west of town. Mr. and Mrs. Livingston have an apartment at Mrs. G.V. Wheeler’s temporarily. The sale was made through L.E. Leslie. Mrs. George Bedell left Friday for her home in Delray Beach from a visit with Mrs. Rosa Hay at the Stroud Hotel. An Army pilot from the Perry field crashed into the Gulf of Mexico, just beyond the Econfina River, last Thursday about noon and burned to death. Rev. H.R. Gladney and C.R. Brooke, of Madison, were fishing in the river mouth at the time and were the first to reach the scene of the tragedy.

James Franklin Cone, of Greenville, has registered with the new class of the State Forest Ranger School of the University of Florida for the one year practical forestry course at Lake City. Miss Jeane Stewart, a student of FSU, was recently pledged to the national social sorority, Gamma Phi Beta. Florida Gov. Dan McCarty died Monday night in Tallahassee after a long illness. Charley E. Johns, president of the Senate, now becomes acting governor because of McCarty’s death. Eugene Sheffield, a student at Abraham-Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton, Ga., spent the weekend at his home here.

Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Greene of Madison are parents of a baby boy born Sept. 25. He weighed nine pounds, four-and-a-half ounces and was named Thomas Harvey Greene III. P.S. Cantey of Madison has been elected a director of the Florida Automobile Dealers Association. Madison’s volunteer firemen staged a fried mullet supper Thursday night of last week at the fire station. About 65 firemen and members of their families attended. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Bailey and Mr. Lamar Andrews of Greenville left Sunday to attend the county commissioners’ meeting in Hollywood. Mr. and Mrs. Bailey also visited her mother in Miami while away.
