John C. “Buddy” Stokes, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at his home in Wewahitchka. John was born on September 8, 1933 in Sulphur Springs to Leonard Stokes and Josie Webb. He retired as SMSGT USAF, retired Civil Service as a fire chief (served 45 years total). Mr. Stokes was a Mason for over 42 years. His favorite past time was fishing, sitting on his porch visiting with friends and family and watching his grandchildren play sports. Mr. Stokes is preceded in death by his mother, Josie Cone; stepfather, Tom Cone; father, Leonard Stokes; and sons: Grady Kito, Leland Harmon, and Curtis Harmon. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; children: Jane Conner, William J. Stokes (Ronda) Betty Jo Higgins, (Jeff). Beth Ann Trevathan (Rick), William R. Kite (Rhonda), and Becky Kite; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Deloris Webb and Norma Stokes. The family received friends Saturday, Sept 14, 2013 from 10-11 a.m. at Dalkeith Baptist Church with services following at 11 a.m. at Dalkeith Baptist Church located at Wewahitchka.
