Founder’s Day Is Just Around The CornerAug 22nd, 2013 | By Jacob | Category: Community News
August is Peanut Picking-Off Time at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, because Founder’s Day is just around the corner. Founder’s Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 19th and it all begins at about 8 a.m. Last Saturday, nearly 40 church members and others picked off nearly 20 bushels of really good peanuts and placed them in the freezers for everyone to enjoy at the church on Founder’s Day. Thanks to Willie and Bobo Agner who live in the local community, there were plenty of peanuts to pick off this year. The Agners have grown the church peanuts for the past 10 or so years, and we certainly want to thank them and their efforts. Boiled peanuts are certainly a delicacy at Founder’s Day, and Charles Wooten and Eugene Williams know the secrets of making them absolutely great, with the correct amount of salt. Come hungry to Founder’s Day and eat until your heart is content. Do not forget that there will be plenty of great food at Founder’s Day again this year. From homemade ice cream to fried pork skins, to boiled corn on the cob to great smoked barbecue sandwiches, there will be plenty of food. Founder’s Day has been going on for over 20 years, and this year looks to be perhaps the best one ever. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a “family oriented day” at Hickory Grove and just have a good time! Plan to attend.
