July 30, 1943 Tobacco brought good prices at the opening day sales Tuesday, with common grades showing 12 to 15 cents higher than last year, and best tobacco bringing little if any more than last year. Judson Rowe, well-known young man of Madison, bought out Jacobs’ Market early this week. Mr. Jacobs, the former owner, has accepted a position as assistant manager of the Piggly Wiggly market. Cpl. George F. Burnett, Jr. has been graduated from the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command school for aircraft mechanics at Gulfport Field, Miss., and will be retained at the field as an instructor. He has been assigned to the 9th Academic Squadron. Cpl. Oscar C. Webb of Madison has graduated from the Armored Tank Department at Ft. Knox, Ky., the past week.
