Patty Browning Olson 1920-2013
Patty Browning Olson was a true matriarch for a good portion of her life and fiercely independent spirit for all of it. As the oldest of 5, (“Dub” Browning, “Tib” Browning, Leila Browning and Marianne Green ) her leadership path began at age 12, when she stayed out of school for a year to care for her youngest sister, Marianne. The hardships of an impoverished beginning in rural Madison county motivated Pat to work hard, and to use her wit, intelligence and determination to get out and make a better life for herself and her family. She was an exemplary part of the “greatest generation.” After relocating to California, Pat ended up running an insurance company with her second husband and love of her life, Lee Olson. They were very successful and their 22 years together were the happiest of her life. Pat retired and relocated back to Madison in 1986, a few years after Lee passed.
Pat had an outsized personality that matched her stature, a quick a zany wit, a sharp tongue, a generous heart and a deep love for friends and family.
Pat leaves treasured memories with sister Marianne Green, nieces Beth (Chris) Tweddle, Eve Browning and Sheila Browning; nephews Bill (Sarah) Green, James (Sherri) Green, and Ivan Browning as well as with their children.
The graveside ceremony at Concord Church Cemetery Thursday, June 20th, at 1 p.m., is being officiated by Steve McHargue at Pat’s request. Instead of flowers, the expressions of regard are invited to be donations to the Concord Cemetery, ATT Melody Taylor. c/o Deacon G. Cason, 6372 NW County Road 150, Greenville, FL 32331.
