Tower Falls On Newspaper Building

The staff at Greene Publishing, Inc. received a jolt when a tower, which feeds 91.7 FM, fell on top of the building right after the workday had begun at the office.
A woman, driving a rental truck, delivering cell tower equipment to a site behind Greene Publishing, Inc., ran into the guide wires and pulled the tower down. A massive boom was heard as the 170-foot steel structure fell on top of the building, part of it coming through the roof. The highest part of the structure was entangled in trees across a dirt road at the office.
No one was injured as the tower fell.
The tower had previously been used for TV3, but was now being used for the radio station. The tower falling knocked the radio station off the air, but it should be back up soon.

March 1 Is Deadline To Apply For Property Tax Exemptions

Friday, March 1, is the deadline for to file for any exemptions or agricultural classifications with Property Appraiser Leigh Barfield’s office.
Exemptions, which people may qualify for include:
*Homestead exemptions
*Seniors 65 or older with an income limitation
*Blind exemption
*Widow/widower’s exemption
*A disability exemption
*A disabled veteran’s exemption
Applications for the exemptions may be downloaded from the Property Appraiser’s website at www.madisonpa.com, or you may go by the office on the second floor of the Courthouse Annex in Madison.

Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball Sponsors Needed

The 2013 Madison County Babe Ruth Baseball/Softball League season is fast approaching and your support is needed and greatly appreciated. This year’s league will have approximately 30 teams, and only 15 sponsorships have been received as of this notice.

If you would like to sponsor a league team, our first time sponsorship fee is $250.00, while our annual renewal sponsorship fee is $200.00.

With your sponsorship, one of our teams will proudly wear a uniform shirt displaying the name of your business.
