MADISON COUNTY BABE RUTH 12U GIRLS SOFTBALL DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

The Madison County Babe Ruth 12U Girls Softball Team is headed to state after dominating their division at the District Championships in Alachua , Florida this past weekend. Despite the weather and elements the girls worked together to obtain the wins needed to bring home the championship. They are a great group of girls and they love softball. They played really hard and they so want to do the same at the State Championships located in Ocala, Florida. The girls will be headed to Ocala the first week of July for at least 4 to 5 days of competition.
The team consists of the following girls: Front row(L-R) Reese Rutherford, Kaylee Groover, Mckenzie Miller,Haily Deihl, Middle Row(L-R) Hannah Zimmerly, Hailey Rogers, Kaylie Rogers, Desirea Alexander, Katelyn McCamman, Camryn Strickland, Alexis Bowen, Bat Boy, Rhett Rutherford; Back Row(L-R) Coaches: Chris Miller, Jamie Groover and Will Rutherford

The team is currently raising money in order to compete at State. The girls only have one week to raise any needed monies. Please be on the lookout for these girls and their fundraising endeavors. One fund raiser, a car wash has already been scheduled this SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2012 at the (MCCB) Madison County Community Bank. Any support you can give these young ladies would be greatly appreciated.

Obituary: Horace Eugene (Gene) Hollie

Horace Eugene ( Gene ) Hollie, 84, of Lee, passed away at his home on Friday, June 22,2012, after a short battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Hollie was born in Alabama, later his family moved to Live Oak, where he spent his young adult life. Later he moved to Panama City, but returned to Live Oak and Lee where he met and married Laverta Williams.
Mr. Hollie is preceded in death by his son Kevin.
Surviving are his children: Joan(Mike) McCrimon, John (Angie) Hollie, James (Judy) Corbin all of Live Oak; Tammy (Tim) Sindt of Madison, Edith (Virgil) Morgan of Morganton,Ga., Debbie Nolan and Leroy (Penny) Hollie of Brooksville, Earl (Vicky) Hollie of Panama City, Keith (Gwen) Hollie of Anchorage, Alaska; and one cousin, Gayle (Willie) Carter of Lee. Also surviving are three stepdaughters and four stepsons from surrounding counties, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mr. Hollie was a carpenter and an avid fisherman that loved telling about the big one that got away. He was also a great gardener that loved to give his vegetables to friends and family.
ICS Cremations of Lake City were in charge of all arrangements.
A memorial service will be held at Pine Grove Missionary Church (three miles north of Madison on Rocky Ford Rd.) in on July 01, 2012 at 2 p.m.
