“12 Dates of Christmas” airs Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on ABC Family

The world premiere of the ABC Family original movie and romantic comedy “12 Dates of Christmas” airing Sunday, Dec. 11 as as part of ABC Family’s popular 25 Days of Christmas event has a special connection to Madison County. The movie is co-written and co-produced by Blake Harris, son of Peggy and Sammy Harris of Madison and brother of Meghan Harris of Madison.

Blake attended Madison County High School and dual enrolled at North Florida Community College. He then attended The University of Miami and moved to Los Angeles soon after graduating. “12 Dates of Christmas” marks his first original project in the movie business and his family couldn’t be prouder.

The movie stars Amy Smart and Mark-Paul Gosselaar and features original songs by Michael Bublé and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. Spark’s song “Angels are Singing” was written specifically for the project and will make its premiere in the opening of the movie.

After pitching the idea to ABC Family with Aaron Mendelsohn and getting the green light to proceed, Blake and Aaron worked together to write the original story. Mendelsohn and Janet Brownell adapted the script for television with Blake Harris serving as co-producer. Executive producers are Frank von Zerneck and Beth Miller, with Salli Newman producing and Emmy nominated James Hayman directing.

The romantic comedy follows Kate Stanton (Amy Smart) as she ruins a blind date with Miles (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) while trying to reconnect with her ex-boyfriend on Christmas Eve. But fate steps in and Kate must relive her Christmas Eve over and over until she finds true love and learns to stop living in the past. “12 Dates of Christmas” airs Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. on ABC Family. See the trailer to the movie on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se13jsZexQI.

Blake is currently working on an array of new projects that we’ll be hearing more about very soon.

Cowboy Basketball Team Bounces Back

Submitted by Eddie Richie, Head Coach, Varsity Boys Basketball, Madison County High School

After a disappointing display in our first home game against Maclay on the 29th that ended in a 60 – 31 loss, the Cowboy basketball team bounced back in their first 2 pack-the-gyms of the young season. They defeated Brooks County Friday and the rival Hamilton County on Saturday. The team got a huge boost from the fans on Saturday. The crowd was much larger than even I expected for an early season game. Being that we have 3 freshman and one senior who have never played in a pack-the-gym against anyone, let alone against a rival like Hamilton, you never know what to expect. The leadership of juniors Trey Johnson and Davontay Stephens set the pace. I can’t say enough about those two young men. They have grown up a lot and have put in lot of hard work this off-season.  Sophomore Coddrick Griffin stepped up and had a monster game Saturday (21 points, 12 rebounds). Freshman Ivan Johnson stepped up as well hitting big shots and handling the ball during crucial times in both wins. First year player, senior Deontay Jones, found his shot again Saturday and was all over the court on both ends. Freshman CJ Feadand Ladarious (Bump) Robinson are starting to find their groove handling the ball. They have had more responsibilityput on them than they are ready for, but they have embraced the challenge and have gotten better every game. The team played together, played hard, and played with passion. Most of all, they had fun. I couldn’t be more proud of where we are right now.

The JV team is 3-1 and remain undefeated at home this year and last.  Most of the team is either new, or new to the court. Coach Allen Demps has done an outstanding job getting these young men ready. Freshmen Javon Redding, Jaylon Hazzard and Trey Livingston are learnig theii roles and stepping up nicely. Kelvontray Jonas, Joc Blackshear and Seth Molnar are all sophomores who are getting used to the increased playing time and the importance of their roles on the team. New player Shayon Davis is coming into his own and stepped in big this weekend. The early season most improved player has to Javen Butler. He is really learning his role and had become a good rebounder and defender.

This week, boys basketball only has 1 game, but its a big one. Friday all four teams travel to Taylor County for our first district game of the year. Taylor will have their whole roster, as did all the other teams we are playing against, but both our JV and Varsity teams are still playing short-handed. So the coaching staff will be asking our young team to step up, just like they did this past weekend, and get our first district win of the year. So, for those of you heading to Orlando Friday night to cheer on the Cowboy football team, take the scenic route and stop by Taylor County Gym on your way to cheer on a hard working group of young men and women. Thanks for all your support!! Good luck to the Cowboys going state!!

MADISON LIONS RECYCLE FOR SIGHT

(December 5, 2011, Madison Florida) — As Christmas cleaning gets under way, the Madison Lions are asking people to look through dresser drawers and closets for used eyeglasses and donate them to the Lions Recycle for Sight program.
During the month of December, the Madison Lions Club will be collecting used prescription eyeglasses and prescription and non-prescription sunglasses as part of a unique recycling program.  The collected glasses will be cleaned and prepared for distribution in developing countries where eye care is often unaffordable and inaccessible.
“We need everyone to donate their used eyeglasses,” said Jay Lee, Lions Club President.  “In most developing countries, an eye exam can cost as much as one month’s wages and a single eye doctor may serve a community of hundreds of thousands of people.”
The donated glasses will be shipped to a regional Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where they will be cleaned, categorized by prescription and prepared for distribution by Lions and other groups.
To donate used glasses (including sunglasses and reading glasses), place them in the specially marked Lions Recycle for Sight collection boxes located at Madison Sporting Goods, Shelby’s Restaurant and The Madison Eye Center.
The Madison Lions Club (est. 1943) has 14 members and meets on Tuesdays at Shelby’s Restaurant.  Lions clubs are a group of folks who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.  For more information or to get involved with the Madison Lions Club, please contact the Club Secretary, The Rev. Lee Monroe FerDon, at padrelee@yahoo.com.
Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with nearly 1.35 million members in approximately 45,000 clubs in 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.  Since 1917, Lions clubs have aided the blind and visually impaired and made a strong commitment to community service and serving youth throughout the world.  For more information about Lions Clubs International, visit the Web site at www.lionsclubs.org.
