November is Hire a Hometown Hero Month

Honor. Loyalty. Respect. Integrity. These are only four of the core values instilled in our nation’s military veterans – and four of the reasons why November is “Hire a Hometown Hero” Month in North Florida. There are over 970,000 veterans under the age of 65 in Florida, who are ready, willing and able to go to work today. In North Florida Workforce’s six-county region alone, there are 504 eligible-for-hire veterans who have been recently been active in Employ Florida (www.EmployFlorida.com).
Hire a Veteran Month is an initiative coordinated by the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs, the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO), and Workforce Florida, Inc, along with the state’s 24 Regional Workforce Boards. The purpose is to highlight the many ways employers will benefit from hiring veterans.
Florida’s veterans come equipped with the knowledge and skills earned through rigorous on-the-job training and schools, via the US Military. Whether formerly Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Air Force, a veteran offers Florida’s businesses high skills, education, leadership, maturity and dedication. In 2010, the Society for Human Resource Management reported that businesses who hired veterans noticed a significant difference in production, professionalism and the ability to see tasks through to completion.
Join North Florida Workforce on November 15th for an evening showcasing the benefits of hiring veterans. From 5:30-6:30 pm at the Workforce Career Center (705 E. Base Street in Madison), speakers will showcase the benefits of hiring veterans. All veterans and their families, employers, and other interested parties are welcome to attend.
