Update from Coach Richie
By Coach Eddie Richie, MCHS Head Varsity Basketball Coach
Well, its official. Jv basketball season is officially over. Coach Demps worked a masterpiece. Their only defeat was @ Godby where they only had a roster of 7 players. So, technically, this team is undefeated! They defeated Baker County last night to finish the season 19-1, surpassing the previous best record of 16-4 for JV basketball. The JV roster is as follows below. The ones with the * have been moved up to varsity for the final game of the regular season and district play. Please congratulate them when you see them. It was hard work. This record was not handed to them. It started in the summer where some played against varsity opponents in camps and summer leagues. Then, they came and practiced with varsity and played against varsity opponents until football season was over. They did all the same things varsity has done in practice and in games. Many will be ready for varsity next season. As a matter of fact, as of now there will only be one senior on next years team. The rest will be together for 2 years. Coach Demps has been true blessing in getting the players ready for varsity basketball and helping them grow into productive young men.

On another positive note, when report cards came out, every single player, both on JV and Varsity was eligible to continue the season and be involved in Spring Sports, with many making above a 3.0 on their 9 weeks grades. We are extremely proud of their hand work on and off the court.
Varsity won their final road game of the season last night in Baker County. That moves our record to 7-6 since the break with one left to play. We have won 3 of our last 4 with our final game against Melody Christian tomorrow at 7pm. Cowboys defeated Melody 88-36 in our first meeting at their place. This will be our first game with our district roster. Our district roster is different due to injuries and JV players moving up. Here are the 15 players that going to strive for a District Title starting next Friday @ 7:30 vs. East Gadsden at the MCHS Gym.
