Madison Stands In For Miami In Movie

It sounds strange, but movie magic can make a lot of things happen.
Actually, the only Madison sets used were Police Chief Gary Calhoun’s office, with the alley beside the police station doubling as the “crime scene.”
Carl Graddy, a friend of Chief Calhoun’s from Central Florida, is a consultant on the movie, the one who suggested Madison for some of the location work and asked Calhoun about the possibility.
The movie, Hidden Agenda, concerns a legendary Miami Detective named Matthews, a talented crime-solver who can usually crack a case right from his office. However, when an aggressive serial killer comes to town, it isn’t just another case in the dockets. The threat brings Matthews out of his office, even out of his precinct as he desperately tries to find a kidnap victim before it’s too late, while his world begin to unravel around him. It’s a crime drama that is as much a psychological thriller as it is a serial-murder mystery.
When Hidden Agenda is completed, it will have scenes filmed in Orlando, Madison and Oviedo, Fl. The City of Madison will receive thanks in the movie credits, but there won’t be anything identifying the Madison Police Department, since the movie supposedly takes place in Miami.
Aaron Warren is the producer/director, Hans Hernke of Los Angeles is Detective Matthews, Adam Barnett of New York is Captain Howard and Cameron Bigelow of Orlando is Detective Davis. Local talent and Rat Pact Theater member Tim Dunn plays a homeless man who finds the dead body in the alley. Additionally, look for Calhoun and other members of the Madison Police Department in cameo roles.
Hidden Agenda…coming soon to a theater near you.

Pursuit, Arrest

John Clark

Kelvin Washington

Michael WilliamsMadison County Sheriff Ben Stewart reports that during the early morning hours of Saturday the 6th day of April 2013 Deputy Daniel Dukes stopped a 2008 Mercedes Sedan on Interstate 10 West bound at the 258 mile marker for a traffic violation. When Deputy Dukes walked up to the Mercedes and tapped on the window the driver later identified as Michael Danel Williams, 39, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL quickly accelerated and sped off West bound. Deputy Dukes initiated a vehicle pursuit and called for support units. The Mercedes exited I-10 at the 251 mile marker (State Road 14) and reentered the Interstate East bound continuing to flee from Deputy Dukes. Speeds quickly reached in excess of 130 miles per hour as the Mercedes reached exit 258 (State Road 53). The Mercedes exited I-10 at the 258 exit ramp (State Road 53) and deputies lost visual contact.
Sgt. Bobby Boatwright, Cpl. Jarrod Lauth and Deputy Daniel Dukes began searching the area and checking local business for the Mercedes. Soon thereafter, Deputy Dukes observed a fresh set of tire tracks left in the dew leading behind Mt. Olive Church. Deputy Dukes followed the tire tracks and located the Mercedes parked behind Mt. Olive Church with the head lights off. As Deputy Dukes drove closer to the Mercedes it again sped off at a high rate of speed. Deputy Dukes continued pursuit South on State Road 53 headed back toward the Interstate.
Cpl. Lauth joined the pursuit while Sgt. Boatwright was able to successfully deploy tire deflation devices in an attempt to safely disable the Mercedes and terminate the pursuit. Three of the four tires on the Mercedes were deflated however the Mercedes continued to flee and got back on I-10 East bound. As the pursuit neared the 260 mile marker the Mercedes crossed the median and West bound lanes before coming to a stop against the fence line. The driver exited the Mercedes and climbed the fence before fleeing into the woods on foot.
Two passengers identified as Kelvin Levon Washington, 27, and John Sidney Clark, 33, both of Ft. Lauderdale, FL were immediately taken into custody without incident. Cpl. Kevin Stout with K-9 Onyx was called to the scene to track the driver and a short time later K-9 Onyx was able to successfully track the driver through a heavily wooded area where he promptly surrendered and was arrested without further incident.
The Mercedes was found to contain a felony amount of marijuana, along with stolen credit cards, driver licenses and social security cards.
Arrested and charged are the following:
Michael Danel Williams, BM, DOB 08/02/1973, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Felony Fleeing & Eluding, Possession of Marijuana more than 20 grams

Movie Shoot In Madison

Submitted by Madison Police Chief Gary Calhoun

About a month ago I received an email from Carl Graddy, a friend of mine who worked with me in Central Florida. Carl had been hired as a consultant on a movie and needed a location to shoot some police related scenes. He asked if they could use my office here n Madison. When I agreed he and the director came up to check it out. The director loved the location and scheduled a time to come back to film.

The cast and crew of about 8 people arrived Friday at noon and shot until about 10:00 pm. They shot mostly in my office on Friday. Most of Saturday was spent outside, shooting a crime scene in the alley outside the police department. Several of our officers were in cameo roles and background scenes. Tim Dunn from our local Rural Area Theater Troupe was asked to play the part of a drunken homeless man who discovers the dead body in the alley.

Although Madison will be thanked in the credits of the movie, nothing specifically identifying Madison PD will be in the film. The film is actually supposed to be taking place in Miami.

The movie is called Hidden Agenda. It is being produced and directed by Aaron Warren. The characters include: Hans Hernke from Los Angeles as the lead character Detective Matthews, Adam Barnett from New York as Captain Howard and Cameron Bigelow of Orlando as Detective Davis.

Below is a quote from Carl Graddy regarding the film:
Filming started on April 3rd in Orlando, Florida. Location shooting this last weekend was in Madison, Fl., next week in Oviedo, Fl. The film is about a legendary Miami Detective named Matthews (played by Hans Hernke) who gained his reputation by solving cases from his office, but when an aggressive serial killer threatens his city, he is forced to leave the confines of his precinct to find a helpless kidnapped victim. His world begins to unravel and crumble around him in this crime/thriller story that tests the very limits of the human psyche.

Ten Commandments Request Withdrawn

Five days after a Ten Commandments monument was approved to be placed on the courthouse lawn, the group making the request asked that the issue be removed from a meeting scheduled for Monday evening, March 25, and revisited at a later date.
Apparently, Tom Reeves, attorney for the Board of County Commissioners, had contacted the Liberty Counsel and asked if they would represent the county in case a lawsuit was filed. He was informed that, because of the way the matter had been handled without a plan where exactly the monument would be placed and how to deal with future requests, that Liberty would not represent the county.

The letter requesting the matter be withdrawn from consideration at the March 25 meeting was presented to the board by former County Judge Wetzel Blair, who had presented an appeal to the board to approve the measure at their Wednesday, March 20, meeting.

SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE FOR NORTHWEST FLORIDA THIS WEEKEND

TALLAHASSEE – The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) urges residents and visitors to stay alert and use caution this weekend as a low pressure system is forecast to bring severe weather across Northwest Florida and the Suwannee River Valley on Saturday. Have a NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio in your home of office to receive warnings from the National Weather and follow all instructions from local officials.

“The timing of the severe weather will be two-fold as this low pressure system causes a warm front to lift through the Panhandle and Big Bend on Saturday afternoon or early evening before a cold front sweeps through the area late Saturday night and Sunday morning,” said FDEM Meteorologist Brad Schaaf. “Be sure to pay close attention to the forecasts for your area and visit www.FloridaDisaster.org for more information on how to stay safe during severe weather.”

Primary threats from this potential storm system may include lightning, damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per house, large hail and isolated tornadoes. In addition, widespread rainfall of up to two inches is possible across North Florida with locally heavier amounts of up to four inches of rain. This could cause localized flash flooding in low-lying or urban areas.

The potential for severe weather will be greatly reduced on Sunday. However, a few storms across Northeast and Central Florida may become strong or even severe. These storms may produce dangerous lightning, gusty winds and small hail.

If severe weather threatens your area, be sure to follow these important safety tips:

Ensure your NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio is on and programmed for your area or stay tuned to a trusted local media outlet for the most current weather situation. Ensure your disaster supply kit is prepared and heed all instructions from local officials.
Know what you would do in the event of a severe thunderstorm or tornado watch or warning. If a tornado warning is issued for your area seek shelter immediately in a interior room, away from windows.
NEVER drive through flooded roadways as road beds may be washed out under flood waters, and just one foot of fast-moving flood water can move most cars off the road.
If thunder roars, go indoors. If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning and should seek shelter immediately.
To learn more about severe weather in Florida, and to Get A Plan!, visit www.FloridaDisaster.org, and follow FDEM on Twitter at @FLSERT, on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/FloridaSERT and www.Facebook.com/kidsgetaplan and on Google+ at FLSERT.

Beware Of Grandparent Scam

Madison County Sheriff’s Office requests all Grandparents be aware of the newest Scam reported to our office. The “GRANDPARENT SCAM” .
On March 19, 2013 a report was filed with MCSO that a couple had received a phone call from a young person only identifying themselves as their “favorite grandson”. When the grandparent called a name of one of her grandsons they answered “Yes, it’s me” explaining they were in jail and didn’t want their parents to find out and could they please help them by wire a large amount of money to a Bail Bondsman in Panama.
This person was so convincing, the grandparent went to Wal-Mart and tried to wire the money. Luckily the transaction did not go through and the grandparent was able to keep her money. And after contacting her children found out her grandson was at home and not in trouble in Panama.

Not any one of us wouldn’t drop whatever we’re doing to help a grandchild, but before making this happen, please verify and don’t be a victim.

Scam Safety Tips.

1) Listen to the caller and take notes, including the person’s Caller I.D.
2) Don’t give the caller any of your personal information.
3) Verify your family member’s location by using a valid phone number or speaking with other relatives.
4) Contact the U.S. Embassy in the country involved and ask for assistance or verification of an arrest.
5) Report the scam to your local police/sheriff’s office or FBI

Scammers have become more sophisticated in researching their targets, likely using social networking sites such as Facebook to learn about family members who are abroad. Other times, the scammers just cold-call their targets and hope for a easy victim.

The caller posing as the family member also will plead with the grandparent to not contact other relatives for fear of getting into trouble or worrying them, a tactic that helps isolate the victims into giving money.

Many of the scammers often make it sound as if the money needs to be sent urgently, but don’t fall for it. If someone actually is arrested or in the hospital, then there should be no such rush.

Unfortunately, once the money is gone, it’s gone for good. Victims rarely get their money back.

The scam works because it pulls on the heartstrings of grandparents. Stay alert and don’t be a victim.
