A Lee man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident after hitting a fire hydrant on Wednesday, Dec. 26.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Charles N. Kuhl, 59, of Lee, was southbound on State Road 53 in a 1998 Chevy S-10. The pickup entered the west shoulder and struck a fire hydrant head-on.
Kuhl left the scene of the crash but his pickup was found about a mile away on SR 53 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after it became disabled due to its damage.
FHP Trooper Manuel Smyrnios was the investigating officer.

Madison police officers were dispatched to two active alarms early Christmas morning.
The first call was at 12:10 a.m. when the officers responded to the Jiffy Store, located on East Base Street. Upon their arrival, the officers observed that the front glass had been shattered. They proceeded to clear the inside of the building and notified the key holder. Read more

Pickup Strikes Power Pole

Traffic was backed up as a pickup truck struck a power line at the corner of US 90 and SE Brown Road on Friday, Dec. 14.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Douglas Doty, 47, of Madison, was eastbound on US 90 in the left lane. He went off the south side of the road and struck a utility pole with the front of his 1981 GMC pickup truck. Read more

Greenville Woman Airlifted Following Taylor County Accident

A Greenville woman was seriously injured in a rollover on Jody Morgan Grade in Perry early Saturday morning, Dec. 1.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a motorist passing by noticed an overturned 2006 Toyota Tacoma pickup in the woods off the road. Amy Anne Dice, 26, was pinned under the vehicle, which was on its roof.
The motorist who discovered it reported the accident, which was believed to have occurred at about 2 a.m., to Taylor County 911 at about 5:45 a.m. The motorist assisted Dice from the scene and transported her to town to receive medical treatment.
An investigation by FHP Trooper Gus Smyrnios revealed Dice was eastbound on Jody Morgan Grade when she failed to follow a curve to the left. She went off the right side of the road and overturned. She was ejected from the pickup and then pinned under it.
Dice was airlifted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital from Doctors Memorial Hospital.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the accident scene.
Man Killed In Rollover

A Madison man was killed in a traffic crash on Saturday evening, Dec. 1, at Cherry Lake Circle, 309 feet northeast of Post Road.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Jonathan Hurt, 34, was traveling west on Cherry Lake Drive in a 1984 Ford pickup. For unknown reasons, Hurt traveled onto the north grassy shoulder, struck a culvert and the truck became airborne.
The front of Hurt’s pickup landed in the westbound travel lane and exited onto the north shoulder.
The pickup overturned multiple times and came to a final rest on its roof, facing east on the north shoulder, partially in the westbound travel lane.
Madison County EMS pronounced Hurt dead at the scene.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Cherry Lake Fire and Rescue assisted the FHP at the scene.
FHP Trooper Mark Boatwright was the investigating officer.

The Trail Riders of Madison County, the South Georgia Trail Riders and Hopes and Dreams Riding Facility will hold a benefit trail ride at the Hopes and Dreams Riding Facility, which is located south of Quitman, Ga., at 6300 Madison Highway, on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Phantom Vehicle Involved In Crash

A total of $12,000 in damages occurred to two vehicles in an accident on NE Rocky Ford Road, approximately .25 miles south of Almond Avenue, on Monday evening, Nov. 12. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, an unknown vehicle was stopped in the northbound travel lane of Rocky Ford Road, facing south at the bottom of a hill. Read more
