After a speeding vehicle fled from a traffic stop initiated on County Road 360-A, the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) has arrested two Perry men.
Major David Harper from MCSO reports that on Monday, June 1, at approximately 2:42 p.m., K9 Deputy Anthony Land attempted to stop a gray four-door sedan for traveling 72 mph in a posted 55 mph zone on County Road 360-A. The driver of the sedan, identified as Teaven Sharell Singleton, 28, of Perry, failed to stop and continued driving into the city limits of Madison as Deputy Land continued in pursuit with emergency lights and sirens activated.
Singleton turned into a driveway of a residence located on SW Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and drove around the residence before coming to a stop when both Singleton and his passenger, 28-year-old Tony Cornelius Jackson Jr., also of Perry, exited the vehicle and fled on foot toward Madison Heights Apartment Complex.
As Deputy Land lost sight of Singleton and Jackson, other MCSO deputies and officers with the Madison Police Department (MPD) responded to establish a perimeter and conduct a search of the area. Shortly, deputies received information from concerned citizens who witnessed both suspects enter separate apartments without permission.
Singleton was located inside of an apartment bathroom attempting to flush several small plastic bags of suspected synthetic marijuana. Singleton was taken into custody without further incident as Jackson was located in a different apartment moments later and arrested, also without further incident.
During a search of the suspect's abandoned vehicle, additional plastic bags were located. A total of 171 grams of suspected synthetic marijuana, including a digital scale and packaging materials, were discovered.
Singleton was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, as well as resisting without violence. Additional charges are pending lab results. Jackson was charged with resisting without violence.
"The identification and subsequent arrest of these two individuals is the direct result of the relationship shared between the sheriff's office, MPD and our citizens working together to address criminal activity in our community," said Maj. Harper in conclusion.
